Max capacity of USB music?

Postby LeeC » Tue Jan 10, 2017 9:08 am

Hello all. Does anyone know what the maximum capacity for the Astra for reading music off a USB stick? I've got a lot of music on one stick, but when it's loaded, it does not show all the music. There's obviously some max limit of tracks or albums, but does anyone know what it is?

I *think* it's 32gb. I've got a 32gb stick in mine (albeit not fully loaded) and it works fine.

Thanks for the reply. The stick I've got is 128GB. and contains around 100Gb of music files. Although the car can read from it, it doesn't manage to read in the full set of music, so there's obviously another limitation at play. Anyone else got any info on this?

Well there's a book called Infotainment manual you got with your car and if you tried to open it and read it you would find something like:

File formats and folders
The maximum capacity of a device
supported by the Infotainment system
amounts to 2500 music files,
2500 picture files, 250 movie files,
2500 folders and 10 stages of folder
structure. Only devices formatted in
the FAT16/FAT32 file system are
supported.
If there are images included in the
audio metadata, these images

Thanks for that info. I did look in the Infotainment manual, but I could find that bit.

250 movie files? Is it playing movies on the screen when you're parking? It would be awesome for my kids...

Yes, you can play movies from the USB stick, but I think the engine has to be off, as it doesn't want you watching movies whilst driving!

I've got a 128GB stick, but haven't reached the song limit yet!

I also have the stick connected via a USB hub, so I can plug my phone in and use Android Auto at the same time - though the pain is, the USB doesn't have enough power to charge my phone while connected.

Embed the album art to the song file, delete all other types of file, eg JPG, PNG. You can then have 5,000 songs that are recognised. For MP3, 320 CBR my music is about 48GB. You should be able to watch movies at about walking speed, then the screen goes blank but the sound continues.
