I agree JJ. At time of ordering the diamond vision was proving hard to get through Amazon, and having previous experience with with white vision I took the risk. Tried and failed, really needs to match the DRLs.
The 5000k diamond vision would be a perfect match, but Not E rated and road legal. The white vision will do as a fall back for when the car goes in if my hids need to come out

Adiemcc, can you post a photo for reference of your lights next to the drls?

My previous Astra 'J' had 4xH7s for both dipped and main beam (obviously in separate units) and, after several experiments with different bulb manufacturers and types, I eventually installed PIAA 'Xtreme White Plus' http://www.piaa.co.uk/bulbs/bulbshow.asp?ID=xtwhiteplus, which, although expensive, produced a fantastic flood of very bright white (almost blue) light. PIAA do H1s too, incidentally.

The original DRLs in my 'J', unbelievably, were 21W tungsten filament bulbs, which meant not only did they look an awful yellow against the PIAAS, but also they were burning a total of 42W of power all the time the engine was running (another 'one size fits all' EU Directive for you, which meant every car burning more fuel, whatever the efficacy of DRLs in the first place!!). I replaced these with: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/7440-5 ... White.html, which looked great alongside the PIAAs. These produced no CANBUS errors, but I'm not sure that would be the case on the 'K'.

Whilst I've said this in other posts / threads, it's worth re-iterating that some automotive bulb outlets advise you not to use LED bulbs in units that are required to project a beam, eg, headlights, fogs, reversing lights, etc. Having said that, I know ceratin members on here have used LEDs in those applications without any apparent problems.

I've, legally and cheaply, upgraded both main and dipped to Philips White Vision and am pleased with the result. When I walk up to the car in the dark and unlock I don't think they look at all out of place or yellow against the DRL's. Each to their own. :)

Hi,

Just a quick response from us as we have seen traffic coming to our site from this forum. :D

The kit in question here was actually purchased manually over the telephone, it was a Premium kit that we supplied with a 3 year warranty as suggested.

These kits are not available on the website as the website it actually having a overhaul bringing it back up to date and having ll the latest products published onto it.

We have had several enquiries now from people off this site, so I presumed I'd be better off explaining.

If people still want this kit we can supply it no problems but it would have to be manually and not through our website for now.

Thanks!

Hi Nathan. I'd be interested to learn more about the legality of your kits. I've heard a few conflicting messages online:

1) using an aftermarket HID kit isn't legal because adapting a car designed to use bulbs other that the type fitted at factory is not allowed.

2) the kits are legal provided the headlight adjustment (if fitted) remains functional and the light meets MOT requirement (does not blind oncoming traffic/beam shape).

3) the kits are not legal because they are not E rated.

Please could you clarify this? I'm keen to upgrade the lighting in my Astra K but I'm worried about the implications of my insurance company picking apart my vehicle if I'm involved in an accident.

Cheers

It's a fair question to ask a retailer who specialises in aftermarket kits.

I don't, which is why I raised it on this forum in hope of getting the facts which will allow me to make an informed decision.

I believe that the benefits of HID/LED upgrades are useless if they aren't legal, but that is only my opinion!
