Rear fuse box cover

Post by M1chaelR » Thu Sep 08, 2016 10:25 am

Hey all, me again!

The fitter had to wire my dashcam to the rear fusebox but the cover would not fit back on due to the size of the extra kit from the nextbase kit.

Does anyone know if it's okay/safe to leave the cover off? It's behind the main cover in the boot anyway. Any thoughts appreciated.

I think there is no problem leaving it open.

Is it a front or rear dash cam?
Do you have photos of final installation?

<sarcasm mode: on> Yup, fine to leave all those electrical connections and fuses unprotected, GM put a cover over them for fun... <sarcasm mode:off>
Is that rather horrible green & yellow spliced cable the work of your fitter?

It's a front cam. It is installed like so:

It is, Halfords did it. I'm not sure whether to ask my dealer if they can tidy it up. What would you suggest?

Update: I've booked it into my dealer for them to have a look and check it over. I don't want to take any chances (these things always happen to me).

If I may say so, it looks a bit of a mess!! ;)

Why don't you take it back to Halford's and get them to sort it? I agree that the fuse box cover is better on than off. There must be a way of accommodating the wiring more neatly, so allowing the cover to be replaced.

It looks worse in the picture (which I've now brightened) than it is but it's still not that tidy. The wire spliced by the green and yellow tape comes from the front and then goes into the fuse box. I can only assume that the original wire wasn't long enough.

I think it is the fault of the nextbase kit and the attachment that they have provided. A simple mod to the cover would allow for the cover to be refitted but I'd rather not hack away at it myself. I have a good relationship with my dealer so I'm happy for them to help check it over and sort it. Im not one for taking it back to somewhere that has caused an issue in the first place.

Mmmn every picture tells a story stop making excuses and get it back to Halfords its pathetic, what I would like to know what kind of connection lurkes under the insulation tape, also note its colour is that wire live or earth.i

I would but I wouldn't be happy that they'd sort it properly, I'll be much happier with the dealer who are seeing it on Tuesday. I'll put it down to experience to not let Halfords fit anything, I was a bit dubious to begin with. I'm sure there's a fusebox behind the lower part of the dash that it could have been installed into.

Power could have been taken from fuse 4 in the centre console fuse box as this supplies the Auxiliary power outlet
